Taos imposes total open burning ban for Fourth of July
In response to extreme drought and dry conditions, the Town of Taos has enacted a complete ban on open burning and fireworks within town limits except for the annual Fourth of July show. Mayor Fred Peralta cites historic wildfires and urges public support to avoid violations. Osha Canyon Fire Contained Near Angel Fire Evacuees Return
A fire erupted in aspens on Osha Ridge south west of Angel Fire on Father’s Day prompting evacuations of about 300 residents. Gov. Gary Johnson declared an emergency for the village and Colfax County. By Tuesday the fire was contained with 80 acres burned and residents allowed back home after 6:30 p.m. Firefighters stayed alert for hot spots as winds risked renewed activity.

Taos High senior crowned Fiesta Queen 1998
Samantha Gallegos, 17, Taos High School senior, was crowned queen of the 1998 Fiestas de Taos after a juried pageant at Taos Community Auditorium. Contestants Antonia Abeyta and Melissa Tafoya also competed in appearance, speech and Q A. Gallegos plans to study biology at UNM after graduation.
