Weimer Properties owned by the Mel Weimer estate accuses Cristobal de La Serna Land Grant Association, Taos County commissioner Manuel Trujillo and Rodolfo Velarde of trespass and illegal fees on land south of Taos. The suit filed June 4 in Eighth Judicial District seeks injunctive relief and claims ejectment fraud and conversion.

Judge rules Earthships are subdivisions in Taos County
Earthship communities west of the Rio Grande Gorge are ruled not exempt from the Taos County subdivision process. Judge Stan Read reversed a prior decision on June 4. Michael Reynolds, Earthship creator, agreed in May to pursue subdivision approval after a year-long dispute and will ask Taos County Board of Commissioners on June 23 for variances on water, building permits, sewer and surveying. Reynolds and other builders sued the county last summer over permit denials, contending the off the grid homes with communal land ownership fall outside standard zoning.
