Vern White’s Cinderella bid lands near miss at Herald Am qualifier

Vern White, a teaching pro and Thousand Islands Club member, shocked by shaving 50 strokes off last year’s qualifier as he posted a 81 to 82 range at Green Lakes State Park. He hoped to break into the top 32 but fell short, with 37 players advancing in a field of 182 led by SU professor Mark Linder who shot under 70. White credited mentor Beames for improved mechanics and course management, noting a late birdie but two double-bogeys and missed putts kept him out of the cut.
