Youth gangs mimic organized crime in hearings says former leader
A former gang leader testified at a federal task force hearing that youth gangs now operate like organized crime with interstate drug trafficking extortion and even assassinations. He described a five state operation with ambassadors and a hierarchical structure similar to traditional crime rings. He warned of youths as young as 12 involved in drugs and intimidation and noted harsher retaliation for those who try to leave.
