Judge declines injunction on school land lease sale
Federal District Judge John W. Delehanit of Lincoln said he would not issue a temporary injunction halting public auctions of school land leases on informal request. He asked Judge Archibald K. Gardner to name a three judge panel to hear William Propst of Grant 4 suit seeking to halt the sale. Judge Gardner is in Huron South Dakota. A Block of Dimes campaign along Illinois Street Saturday raised 477.49 for the Sidney High School fund. Sidney Junior Chamber of Commerce led the effort with the band handling donations and Jaycees presenters promoting the drive over a loud speaker. In the Nebraska Colorado border region southwest of Sidney the Olsen No 1 well on Harold Olsen's land is drawing industry interest. Saltmount and Davis report 540 feet of oil at 5376-84 feet with gas to the surface, plus two million cubic feet of gas. later tests show further gas but salt water at lower levels. Nearby leases and wells indicate potential for a new oil and gas bearing structure extending toward Logan County Colorado.
