Sale Will Draw Big Crowd at Lease Auction
The sale of leases on over sixty state owned school land parcels in Cheyenne County and surrounding areas is set for this week after a Nebraska Supreme Court ruling voided automatic lease renewals. The auctions will be held in Chappell today and in Cheyenne County Wednesday with five sections at 9 30 and five at 1 30. Attorney General Clarence Beck warned against heckling and interference to keep the proceedings orderly. Charles D Green heads the Nebraska Leaseholders Association and warned that forcing all leases to the block could ruin many farmers and disrupt smaller operations despite the state’s contract obligations.

Weekend Wrecks Lead to Arrests and Damages
One driver, William Mowry, 28, was arrested after a 12:25 Sunday crash on Illinois near 13th street that damaged four parked cars including a 1950 Ford. Mowry was fined 50 dollars, costs, and had his driving privilege suspended six months for drunk driving. A second incident Friday at 13th and Quince involved three cars with heavy damages but no injuries. A third crash Saturday near Brownson Tavern at 2 pm left a Studebaker overturned. no injuries.
