Wheat Vote Turnout Reveals Disinterest In Wheat Referendum
The Nebraska Farm Bureau report shows a drop in participation from 1961 to 1962 for the wheat referendum with 14 000 voters in Nebraska and a national decline from 273 000 to 236 000. Only Chase county exceeded 66 percent in Nebraska while most major wheat states failed to reach the required two thirds. Critics question grower enthusiasm and the political fairness of a one share one vote system.
