New ASC Building Contracted in Sidney
A new one story block and brick ASC building will be erected in Sidney’s south area to house Agricultural Conservation and Stabilization headquarters and sub rent space to Soil Conservation Service. The Livoni Construction Co. will complete the 3455 square foot, 120 day project, situated just south of the Methodist Church on south 11th Ave. The project is approved by the county ASC committee and awaiting state confirmation in Lincoln. Existing agencies at 935 8th Ave will move to the new site once ready.

Missile Site Bids Set for October 10
Bids for construction of 200 Minuteman missile sites and 20 launch control centers in the Fifth Minuteman Wing are due October 10, with the Corps of Army Engineers in Denver to open them. Gordon Carley and fellow Nebraska volunteers will be honored by the Knights of Ak-Sar-Ben during the Rodeo and Live Stock Show at Ak-Sar-Ben Coli sum. Ernest Wolfe of Wisner Fire Department will receive a gold medal and $50 for heroism beyond duty. Red Cloud, Kennet Schwartz, Ralston, Gering, and other departments will gain plaques and cash for department equipment. Firemanship honorees include Carley with a plaque and $50, plus several named recipients from Cozad Imperial Schuyler and others.

Two Cheyenne County women were elected top officers of District 4 American Legion Auxiliary at the Minatare meeting. Mrs. Louis Johnson of Sidney became district president and Mrs. Roy Gabriel of Gurley was elected vice president. The event included a joint Legion and Auxiliary session, a banquet and dance, and a posthumous honor for Dan Nicholson of Morrill as outstanding legionnaire. Jimmy Ellison Struck By Car On King Street
Twelve year old Jimmy Ellison was struck by a car on King Street near 13th Ave NE as he crossed the road after stepping from his father Warren Ellison’s car. He suffered abrasions a left wrist fracture and skinned knees and was listed in good condition at Memorial Hospital. June McMillen drove the westbound car involved and Ellison’s vehicle rolled forward after he leaped out in alarm.

Rapp to National State ASCS Meetings
Don Rapp, local office manager for the Agriculture Stabilization Conservation Service, will leave next Friday for Minot North Dakota and Washington DC. In Minot he will address the annual convention of the North Dakota ASCS employees. Sheriff Schulz said some tools stolen last March from the L. J. Ross farm northeast of Gurley have been found in a northeast Dalton dump. Not all items recovered. identified items include a jack, wrenches, scoop shovel, saw, and a pitchfork. Estimated loss was about $100. The sheriff is confident the found tools are those stolen.

Federal funds earmarked for Memorial Hospital expansion
The State Hospital Advisory Council approved $36,100 in federal funds toward a $90,250 chronic disease addition at Memorial Hospital and Rest Home. The Hill-Burton Act allocation was sought earlier in the summer, as the council earmarked nearly $1,000,000 for eleven Nebraska hospitals and homes, while $1,350,000 in commitments were acknowledged for projects already in planning or under construction.
