Farm Bureau Seeks End To Wheat Plan
The American Farm Bureau Federation urged President Johnson to ask Congress to repeal the new wheat program, saying it harms farmers and consumers. The plan lowers price supports, offers marketing certificates, pays land diversion benefits, and worsens flour and bread prices, with only about a third of farmers participating. Freeman says a similar program will apply to the 1965 crop.

River Boats Return to Touch Omaha Neighborhoods in Spring
In Nebraska river towns along the Missouri crowds rush to river landings as the first spring steamboat arrives. Settlers from Brownville to Omaha greet the vessel with cheer, buy supplies, and share news while dances on deck feature music from enslaved Black musicians. The pattern repeats as each boat brings fresh goods, papers, and a sense of connection after a long winter.
