Ralph Spearow of Sidney captured the champion wheat award at the State Fair with Cheyenne wheat samples, the biggest wheat show on record at the certified seed show. Wayne Ramig of Gering earned reserve wheat with Lancer. Duane E. Mlady of Verdigre led oats to grand championship with Minhafer, while James R. Frederick of Valparaiso won reserve oats with 4-Heal and first in winter wheat with Gage. Judges Dr. Don Hanway and Dave McGill praised 136 entries as excellent, noting new varieties dominated top placings and signaling strong breeder progress statewide. One of the outstanding Devel County 4-H Sales closed the County Fair with the Grand Champion calf at 36 dollars per hundred pounds. Gordon Peeks owned the calf and the Silver Dollar Cafe in Sidney bought it. LaVern Tranel and Ira Radke led the sale. Chap pell Livestock Commission Co. handled selling and Devel County State Bank clerked. Average prices were 28 for baby beef, 27 for sheep, and 22 for hogs.

Funeral services were held at Chappell for Mrs. Mary Haskell 80 who died at Memorial Hospital in Sidney after 13 days illness. Rites were at the Methodist Church with Rev Harold Mitchell in charge burial in Kowanda Cemetery north of Chappell. 65 Feed Grain Requirements Stay The Same

Manpower Retraining Program to Use Sioux Depot
