Grass-Legume Rotation Plan Sustains Soil

Kimball area conservation plan calls for a grass legume mix in crop rotation to boost soil structure and fertility. Phil Schwindt reports 660 pounds of beef per acre on a 15 acre pasture before 1950 and plans to expand grass-legume use, with windbreaks and irrigation upgrades completed. His 160 acre irrigated farm features a bromegrass sweet clover pasture and a new intermediate wheatgrass alfalfa pasture. the system aims to pay for itself as grass roots improve soil while the rotation begins across the farm.
