Nebraska to set income tax at about 10 percent for individuals
Governor Tiemann and the State Equalization Board expect Nebraska’s first state income tax rate to be about 10 percent for individuals and 2 percent for corporations. Rates must be set by Nov 15, with urgency to decide around Oct 15. The plan links personal and corporate levies, assumes federal surtax impact, and aims to keep rates among the nation’s lowest. The tax law starts Jan 1, 1968, with withholding for wage earners and quarterly or annual payments for self-employed. The board also formed a Clean Waters Commission to issue bonds for sewage facilities, amid questions of constitutionality.
