Local employment office placed 129 people in largely non agricultural roles in September. The later harvest pulled school age workers from the market, nearly doubling agricultural placements from 23 in 1966 to 51 this month. Unemployment claims totaled 150 weeks. In October first full week observed as hire the handi capped week to promote available labor. September placements by sector: contract construction 21, manufacturing 1, public utilities 6, wholesale and retail trade 28, services 15, domestic 6, local government 1, and agricultural 51.
Nebraska Cities Boost Air Usage by Frontier Airlines
Frontier Airlines reported September gains in revenue passenger miles up 61 percent and passengers carried up 43 percent from a year earlier. The Denver carrier saw 41,561,000 revenue passenger miles and 121,250 passengers, aided by Boeing 727 jets and Convair 580 service replacing DC-3s. Sid ney’s boardings rose 35 percent to 234, while Chadron airport, after partial shutdown for upgrades, reopened and is expected to bounce back.

Harry Huet Dies at 85 Funeral Service in Dalton
Funeral services for Harry H. Huet 85 were held at Dalton Presbyterian Church with Rev. William Hunter officiating. Huet, a Nebraska native born Sept 22 1882 at McCook, died Thursday in a Denver hospital. Burial followed in Dalton Cemetery. Memorials may go to the Dalton Presbyterian Church. Survivors include four daughters, a sister, three brothers, 13 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren. his wife had died in 1966.

Minor Damage In Two Mishaps
Sidney police logged two minor traffic incidents. At 6 46 p m Thursday Donald Thompson 26 of Jacksonville NC towed a rental trailer and a pickup truck was towed by Fred Jensen 18 of Sidney. A man jumped from the pickup to the tow vehicle as the light changed causing $5 damage to the trailer and $125 to the pickup door. Later Adolph Triska 66 Sidney backed from a curb and William Chambers 84 Sidney backed from the opposite curb, their rear ends met with only minor damage to both cars.

Fire department douses burning car seat near Sidney
A burning car seat was extinguished at about 9 20 a m by the Sidney Volunteer Fire Department. The call came from one half mile north of Sidney on Highway 385. The seat, in a car owned by Casey Hall, sustained about 150 dollars in damage.

Everett C Walsh Dies At 56 In Cheyenne County
Everett C. Walsh of Cheyenne County died at DePaul Hospital in Cheyenne Morning Monday aged 56 after a brief illness. Funeral arrangements are pending at Gehrig and Son. Born July 6, 1911 at Lodgepole to Dennis J and Sadie Walsh, he moved to Sidney in 1962. He married Mary L Kennedy October 21 1943 in Alliance. Survived by widow two sons Daniel and Richard of Sidney, daughter Mary Jo of Omaha, and brother Dennis of Lodgepole.

Bob Connell of Lincoln was elected president of Associated Credit Bureaus of Nebraska at the 40th annual convention held in Sidney. Margaret Nelson, also of Lincoln, was named president of the Nebraska Credit Women’s International group. Over 60 attendees from 19 of 23 bureaus joined Clay Hielsher of Alliance as vice president and Kenneth Uden of Hastings as secretary treasurer. Evelyn Stegelman of Norfolk and Muriel Halstad of Scottsbluff were chosen as vice president and secretary-treasurer for the ladies’ division. Indianapolis executive VP William Henderson addressed the meeting.

Fort Robinson Museum to Close November 15
The Nebraska State Historical Society Museum at Fort Robinson will remain open until November 15 with hours 8 am to 5 pm Monday through Saturday and 1 to 6 pm Sunday.
