A two car crash at 6 10 p m Wednesday October 4 injured three people and damaged both vehicles. Elain M Nelson of Sidney slowed for a turn when Frank J Fehringer of Peetz rear ended her car. Fehringer and a passenger Faye Fehringer suffered head injuries while the other driver had whiplash. Fehringer cited for following too close.

Burglary Attempt Reported at Silver Dollar Bar
Police suspect a broken storage room window at the Silver Dollar Bar was an attempted burglary. Dan Benzel of 1409 Spruce reported an air compressor tank valued at about 50 dollars missing, with theft traced to the prior weekend.

New Well Reported In County Near Potter Nebraska
A new well northeast of Potter in Cheyenne County may extend Sutton Field or be a new discovery. Montana Petroleum drilled the No. 2 Hagemeister and produced briefly. The Nebraska Oil and Gas Commission will study geology to decide if it’s a field extension or discovery. Several wildcats and prospects are noted in Kimball, Gurley, Banner, Frontier counties, with Sioux and Dawes counties showing activity. The Red Canyon find of 1966 remains Nebraska’s notable oil discovery. Sioux County expected two wildcats soon with Reeves of Casper moving in.

Gentle rain soaked much of Cheyenne County Wednesday night easing the warm spell. Reports show about a half inch in Sidney and Dalton 47 hundredths inch, with Potter around 35 hundredths. Farmers note rain helps wheat crown development and root depth, aiding wind protection as overcast skies lingered and light showers continued into morning.

Sol Willis retires after 23 years in law enforcement in Sidney turning 65. Roy Bauer, former captain, becomes new police chief and Salvation Army chair. Les Couch to fill junior patrol role. Willis spent 1951 at FBI National Academy and led local juvenile probation duties. Bauer, Sidney native since age 16, joined as patrolman in 1949 and became captain in 1951.

State Board Meet Cancelled By Weather In Nebraska
The Nebraska State Board of Education meeting at Western Nebraska VoTech was cancelled indefinitely due to inclement weather. Board members planned to fly to Sidney for a session at the old Sioux Depot, but heavy overcast halted the trip and no new date or place was set. Only member Robert G. Simmons of Scottsbluff traveled to Sidney by car.

Dirt Filled Dams Help Olson Farm Flood Runoff Control

Charles Kinney Rites Held In Sidney Genoa
Funeral services for Charles Kinney 70 were held at Gehrig and Son Funeral Home with Rev. John Slayton presiding. Interment will be in Genoa after services at the Congregational Church and Masonic graveside rites. Kinney once operated The Green Lantern Cafe in Sidney and had lived in Silver Creek Genoa Green River Wyoming before settling in Sidney. He was born September 21 1897 in Silver Creek, married Hazel Harris in 1921, and is survived by his wife a daughter Naomi Niehart of Omaha five grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge.
