Residential Campaign To Start Thursday Toward United Fund Goal

Workers in the United Fund residential campaign will receive supplies Thursday Oct 5 at the headquarters at 11th and Illinois. The 1967 drive aims to raise 13350 for agencies including USO Travelers Aid King's Daughters Boy Scouts Girl Scouts Salvation Army Muscular Dystrophy Red Cross and a 950 budget. Co-chairs are Mrs Warren Ellison and Mrs Neil Allison with Board member Mrs J D Olinger overseeing groups mainly Girl and Cub Scouts.

Punt Pass Kick Contest Set for October 14 in Sidney

Sidney's Punt Pass and Kick contest will be held Saturday October 14 at 1 30 p m at the Sidney High School practice field with a Sunday fallback October 15 in bad weather The event is free. boys aged 8 through 13 may enter by October 6 at 5 p m at Gibson Ford Mercury Entrants must be with a parent or guardian Winners advance to zone then district and national meets with 18 trophies awarded locally. Mark Foster of Gurley is noted as last year's 10 year old champion and former district and area participant.

Partly cloudy tonight and Thursday with lows around 40 to 50 and highs 75 to 85. Rain chance under five percent. Five day outlook shows temperatures 4 to 8 degrees above normal through Monday, with highs near 79 to 80 and lows in the 40s and little to no precipitation.

Japanese Wheat Team Tours American Farms Impressed by Practices

A six man Japanese Wheat Mission team touring the United States impressed Nebraska farmers and agriculture officials during a Sidney stop hosted by Ray Davis. The visitors from Tokyo praised the expansiveness of American farming and questioned export routes, noting freight-rate savings if wheat could be shipped directly to the Pacific coast. The group, led by Masanari Ikeda, Shimizu, and KaNamori, began in Washington and will visit Grant, the North Platte Experiment Station, and states including North Dakota, Minnesota, Montana, Idaho, and Oregon.

Fluoridation ranks Nebraska high in public water use

Nebraska Dental Assn marks its 100th year in 1967 while reporting 44th statewide rank in fluoridation. A map shows the Panhandle largely has adequate fluoride, with Morrill and Garden counties as exceptions. Most fluoridation in the state comes from natural sources.

Frontier Airlines tops September with 234 Sidney boardings

Frontier Airlines reports its Sidney station set a new monthly high with 234 passenger boardings in September and an optimistic October outlook per station manager Dale Kindred. The airport expansion and runway lengthening boost traffic as Frontier uses Jet Prop planes on the Denver to Omaha east west route via Sidney, North Platte, Grand Island and Columbus, while DC3s serve the Denver to Rapid City north south route with larger jets expected soon.

Land Bank Donates to Halsey 4-H Camp in Nebraska

The Federal Land Bank Association at Sidney together with 25 other Nebraska associations donated 3300 for a cabin at the Halsey 4-H Camp in the Sandhills. The state association gave 3000 in 1963 for facilities as the camp grows to serve youth and adults year round. The FLBA supports two 500 scholarships annually to farm boys pursuing University of Nebraska agriculture studies, a program active for 16 years.
