Parole Hearing Set for Doyle as Coffeyville Case Looms

Jess Doyle, a Barker-Karpis gangster, has a parole hearing scheduled for December 9 after the pardon board granted the request. Federal inspectors want him to address the Coffeyville Kansas mail messenger holdup, and Doyle may plead guilty to that charge. He had previously admitted involvement in a $150,000 Fairbury bank robbery in 1933 and implicated Alvin Karpis and others. Doyle is in Nebraska State Penitentiary serving a ten year term, with potential parole revocation if he backs away from promises. Walter Reisenweaver also seeks commutation of his life sentence for murder, having spent more of his life in prison than outside, stemming from an ax slaying in Alliance in 1919.
