Edison argues water power is overrated as a major energy source. He notes 80 percent of undeveloped hydro lies in the West and Pacific, with most demand east of the Mississippi. Transmission to the Atlantic is impractical, making steam plants in load centers more economical. He cites coal efficiency and the need for fuel ties, warning water power cannot alone meet future power needs.
