Prof. R A Olson outlines Nebraska soil nutrient status with nitrogen as the major limiting factor on many soils. Lime is needed in eastern parts due to surface acidity from fertilizers, phosphorus deficient under calcareous and acidic conditions, potassium generally present but lower in eastern counties, zinc scarce on eroded calcareous subsoil, and sulfur deficiency tied to sandy soils near the sandhills.
