Nebraska to Let Contracts for I 80 Construction in 1967 68
The State Roads Department plans two year I 80 work in Western Nebraska and Omaha starting July 1. About 34.3 million dollars in funds will drive contracts for 28.4 miles Brule to Paxent 22.2 miles Chappell to Big Springs and 2.4 miles to the Colorado line. A viaduct and structures on State Highway 61 near Ogallala cost nearly one million dollars.

Services for George Northup Held Monday
George E. Northup 67 died at Memorial Hospital after a period of ill health. Funeral services were set for 2 p.m. Monday at Craig-Holkeck Funeral Home with Rev. William Hunter of Light Memorial Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial followed in Greenwood Cemetery. Northup lived in Hastings and Sidney after stints in Colorado Texas and Idaho. He retired from Sioux Army Depot in 1955 and was WWI veteran. Survivors include wife Marie four sons a daughter a brother and nine grandchildren.

I 80 Closing Set From Hershey To North Platte
North Platte district highway engineer Harold Easom said Interstate 80 will close from Hershey east to North Platte starting May 15 at 7 a.m. to allow paving of six miles of westbound lane with eastbound traffic used to move materials. Eastbound should reopen before Memorial Day weekend. Easom will attend a program in Bayard Saturday and then return to Washington. Congressman Martin, after a mild heart attack last fall, has recovered and works full time in D C on a 1 500 calorie diet, losing about 15 pounds.
