Nebraska to get its own weather forecast by 1972
Ed Stapowich, meteorologist in charge of the Omaha Weather Bureau, says Nebraska will have its own forecast office in Omaha starting July 1972. The Kansas City office will still issue forecasts for now while equipment moves to a former Air Force radar station in northwest Omaha. The Eppley station becomes an observation post as 10 to 12 forecasters are added to develop detailed zone forecasts, aviation forecasts, and expanded agricultural weather guidance.
