Panhandle Has Bright Future Says Hruska

Senator Roman Hruska told a Republican audience in Oshkosh the Nebraska Panhandle’s future looks bright due to a resource conservation and development project covering more than nine million acres across 11 Panhandle counties. He said the project could cost up to 58 million dollars and is run by the Agriculture Department under the Great Plains Conservation program, extended for another decade.

Mr and Mrs C B Dorwart returned Sunday from New York where Mrs Dorwart took part in the annual contest for American Mother of the Year. She was named Nebraska Mother of 1970 weeks ago and featured in a magazine story in The Omaha World Herald. She remains the 1970 Nebraska Mother.

Hot Rod Event Promotes Racing Excitement Thursday

Public program hosted by National Hot Rod Association set for Thursday May 14 at 6 30 pm in the National Guard Armory highlighting NHRA films from Indianapolis 1968 nationals and Julesburg 1969 tri state championships. Miss Cheyenne County Pageant Crowned New Queen

Kathy Wright was crowned Miss Cheyenne County with Connie Palmer as second runner up. Seven contestants competed in the pageant held in Lodgepole with Jody Enevoldsen of Potter as the 1968 queen crowner and The Sidney National Bank as sponsor.

Certification Deadline Set For May 20th

Lincoln farmers must file seed certification applications by May 20 for crops including wheat oats barley rye bromegrass wheatgrass sweet clover crownvetch and first crop alfalfa. Applications available at county extension offices or NCIA in Lincoln. Late filings incur 5.00 fee and field inspections begin in early June.

Cheyenne County Farmers Sign Up At High Rate For 1970 Program

Cheyenne County 1,034 farms or 95 percent signed up for feed grain and 1,312 farms or 97 percent enrolled in wheat under the 1970 farm program. Nationwide signup nears record levels. total acres expected to idle around 37.5 million. Agriculture Secretary Hardin set 38 million acre goal for 1970 with payments for retired acres and no pay for those idle as minimums.

Road projects in Deuel County announced by state roads

State Department of Roads listed apparent low bidders Friday for about 12.5 million dollars in Nebraska road work. In Deuel County 0.4 miles on I 80 at Chappell includes grading detour culverts and asphalt surface by Werner Construction of Hastings for 93,479. Beatrice Construction Co. of Beatrice 43,884 on bridge. W L Schmidt Co. of Potter 6,228 on guard rail. In Deuel 3.6 miles Oshkosh interchange south includes grading 33,790 culverts 17,485 and asphalt surfacing 139,315 by Werner.
