Miss Cheyenne County Pageant Set Saturday

Seven candidates compete for the Miss Cheyenne County crown at 8 p.m. in the Sidney Junior High Auditorium. Winners will advance to Miss Nebraska in York in June.

Panhandle Weather Forecast Turns Cooler Late Thursday

Partly cloudy this afternoon and tonight with possible thundershowers this afternoon and evening. Southerly winds 15 to 25 mph. Highs 70 to 80 this afternoon and Thursday, turning cooler late Thursday. Lows in the 40s to 50s. Rain chances 10 percent today and tonight, 20 percent Thursday.

Kraupie Elected to Nebraska Auctioneers Board

Harold Kraupie, noted western Nebraska auctioneer, named to the Nebraska Auctioneers Association board of directors at the Lincoln convention. John T. Ryan of Greeley was chosen president while Bob Devaney of Nebraska University spoke at the annual banquet.

McCaigs Plan Retirement Move to Austin Texas

Dr. Sidney McCaig longtime pastor of the First United Methodist Church in Sidney announces retirement effective June 1. He cites health pastoral load and warmer climate as reasons and plans to move to Austin Texas with possible part time church work. A replacement will be named at the June 14 Annual Conference and a lay speaker fills the pulpit June 7. New district superintendent Virgil Anderson replaces Harold Sandahl.

Ground Breaking Set For Lodgepole 4 H Youth Camp

Dalton Ballot Measures Liquor Sales in Upcoming Vote

Dalton voters head to the polls next week to decide whether alcoholic beverages may be sold by the drink. On sale beer is already legal in Dalton, with the ballot addressing other forms of liquor. The issue marks a major county election question in Cheyenne County on May 12.

Two Injured In Collision At 12th And Illinois

A Tuesday night crash at the 12th Illinois intersection injured two people. Marion Arthur Jones of Junction City drove east and struck Leland Bodeman's taxi, a total loss. Bodeman and Pearl Janes were taken to Memorial Hospital with head cuts and bruises.

False Alarm At Sidney Farm Stubble Fire

Sidney Volunteer Fire Department responded Monday night to a stubble fire six miles east and six miles south of Sidney on the Jim Deaver farm. Firemen found the blaze had been set intentionally but was under control. They urge area farmers to call before burning fields to prevent future false alarms.

Gurley Pastor to Lead Trinity Lutheran Cordova Neb

Five-Year-Old Drowns In Kimball Reservoir Tragedy

In Kimball, the five year old grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Madden of Potter drowned after reportedly falling from a pontoon boat. His uncle Ira Dale Ruark, 44, also died diving to save him. Ruark recovered Monday night and the boy’s body was found Tuesday morning.
