Letters to taxpayers warn of airport funding risk

North Platte Sees Possible Ten-Mill School Tax Hike

North Platte may raise school taxes by about ten mills after a promise by School Superintendent Otto Oakes that taxes will increase. He expects the 1957-58 levy to land between 3 and 36 mills above the current 26.76 mills for District 1. Salary and supply costs drive part of the rise, with no new building this year though minor improvements are planned. The district’s cash reserve has been exhausted after last year’s 29.68 mill levy was cut by the commissioners. Current total levy stands at 61.10 mills.
