Sidney Freshmen sweep Sterling in Junior High dual
Sidney teams swept both ends of a Sterling junior high dual meet. Freshmen won 81 to 43 led by Gary Schmitt with wins in 100, 220, and broad jump. In 7th and 8th grade, Sidney won 82 to 41 with Terry Wickstrom taking 100 yard low hurdles, shot, and high jump, while George Siders doubled in 50 yard and quarter mile dashes.

An eight team Panhandle Baseball League appears nearly certain for 1958 with a May schedule. At a meeting this week team reps expressed near unanimity for eight clubs. Likely members include Bunker Hill, Potter, Dalton, Broadwater, Oshkosh, Peetz, Chappell and Sidney. Dalton Tigers nudged a strong Potter squad to win the Lodgepole Valley Conference track and field meet at Dalton after a weather delay. Top performers included Vernon Jobman and Jerry McRoberts with two wins each, McRoberts in the 880, Jobman in the shot put, and Alcaraz of Dix winning the mile. Dalton captured the team and mile relay trophies while Gurley earned the half mile relay.

Fleming erupted with seven runs in the opening inning and rolled to a 19-6 victory over Peetz to win the Lower Platte Valley League baseball title at Sterling. Peetz had Western division honors. Fleming Eastern division king. Don Korster walked four in four innings for Peetz. James Miles and Jerome Hoefler pitched for Fleming. Next game for Peetz is at Haxtun on Friday, May 9.

Freshman cindermen to lead Scottsbluff junior high meet
Coach Sandy Wafford will take a one man Maroon freshman squad to Scottsbluff for the third annual freshman junior high track meet. The Maroons face Scottsbluff Gering Alliance and Morrill with field preliminaries at 9 a m and finals at 1 15 p m Defending champ is Alliance. Next Wednesday the freshmen and grades seven and eight travel to Alliance. Probable participants include Schmitt Pfeil Freide in sprints and Lindgren Bowman Hammond Tyson in distance and relays with sprints and field events led by Hill Ham and others.

Sidney women bowlers competed in the Nebraska Women's Championship in Swat Platte. Cheyenne County Memorial Hospital led Sidney with 13th place. The Mill finished 22nd, SODs Lucky Strike 31st, and Willie Williamson was 17th in singles. Doubles saw Marge Kahl and Joyce Wamsley lead Sidney at 48th. total Sidney winnings were $128.00.
