Virginia Johnson Enters State Music Contest
Virginia Johnson, Sid ney high school student, left Thursday for Hastings to compete in the state music contest held today and tomorrow. She is to perform in the central solo contest with her mother, Mrs. J. W. Johnson, at the piano. The contest, moved to Hastings to allow broader participation from central and western Nebraska, draws about 3,500 students and supervisors. Prizes include 35 cups for group places and 22 medals for solo events, with the Sinfonia trophy for the best class B or C school and the all Nebraska championship trophy for the top scoring high school.

Airplane chartered to aid search for drowned Sidney grocer at Harris Lake
Volunteer crews and an Alliance airplane scanned Harris Lake near Oshkosh for E. D. Cooley, a Sidney grocer, who drowned when his boat overturned. Befrienders shaped McCabe journey from waif to Edison boss
James P. McCabe once a Sidney laborer in 1888 visited the city this week seeking news of the people who helped him then. Robert Oberfelder vouched for the tale of a box car arrival in April 1888 and the hat gift. McCabe helped plant a grove along Lodge Pole creek, a landmark now admired for its willow trees, including a tree 140 inches around.
