Nebraska’s delayed aid to Lincoln tomb monument story
The 1869 Nebraska Legislature debated a $1000 aid for the Abraham Lincoln monument at Springfield. Isham Reavis pushed for funds, which were cut to 500 and approved. Nearly 14 years later Reavis learned the money had lapsed. In 1883, a reappropriation passed and Dawes signed, finally directing Nebraska to aid the tomb.
