Governor To Open Sidney Days Program
Governor Peterson will open Sidney Days with a Thursday afternoon ceremony at one o'clock commemorating Sidney as a frontier military outpost. He arrives from Colorado Springs, may stay overnight with Mrs. Peterson at Sen. Ray Babcock’s home, and the program honors early pioneers and the Fort Sidney era, including a cavalry company and protection for railroad workers. The fort was abandoned in the 1890s and few structures remain, though some officers’ quarters and the powder house survive.
