Spud Spraying Urged To Fight Potato Psyllids In Nebraska
Entomologist R E Hill of the University of Nebraska warns central and western Nebraska potato growers to spray for potato psyllids this summer. The insect damaged a million bushels in western Nebraska last season and is now found in McCook area and central counties. The entomology department recommends DDT spray or dust: two pounds of 50 percent wettable DDT per 100 gallons of water or 25 30 pounds of 3 to 5 percent DDT dust per acre. One good application may suffice, but three to four may be needed for full control. Similar treatment is advised for potato leafhoppers in eastern and central Nebraska.
