Sidney Telegraph: Historic Cheyenne County Paper’s Rise and Shifts
The Sidney Telegraph, Nebraska’s oldest Cheyenne County newspaper, grew from a four page, four column start in 1878 to a major semi weekly paper by mid 20th century. It weathered ownership changes, consolidations with The Plaindealer, and moves through Sidney locations, guided by editors including Drake, McNulty, Callahan, Devlin, Cary, Lyon, and Doran, with growth tied to oil and gas activity. The Telegraph’s evolution mirrors the town’s development from gold rush days to a rising modern community.
