Women’s Fellowship Groups Meet and Plan Events

Two Christian Wom en's Fellowship groups recently met in members' homes. The Garland Farmer and Kami awa groups discussed a retreat June 23 at Kearney and installation of officers June 19. A report on a May 1 Alliance workshop was given, with 14 members and one guest present. A Friday meeting planned a Legion Park picnic in July. A bridal shower honored Miss Larry Golden, gifts given, pink and white decorations, and attendees listed.

Mormon Elder to Visit Scottsbluff on June 11

Church official from the First Council of Seventy will visit Scottsbluff June 11 during a Western States Mission tour. Elder Elvin of Salt Lake City, accompanied by mission president David Sn. Romney of Denver, will meet missionaries at 8:20 am and hold a district conference at 7 pm at the Scottsbluff Branch Chapel open to the public. The tour marks two local church dedications and reflects the Church’s outreach in the United States.

Dorcas Society Meeting at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church

Dorcas Society of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church met Thursday afternoon in the church parlors with 22 members and one guest Miss Alice Rexroth. Rev. Henry Monnich presented the scripture lesson. Mrs Esther Swanson conducted a brief business meeting and plans were made for the Bible School picnic on Friday June 12. Mrs Melvin Phelps served as treasurer pro tem. Fourth Degree Knights Exemplar Held In Sidney Nebraska

Fifty eight men became Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus at an exemplification Sunday at the Youth Center in Sidney. Degree teams from Omaha and North Platte led the ceremony honoring Rt Rev Msgr Thomas Sincowski of St Patrick’s Parish. Approximately 150 attended a banquet and dance at Ft Sidney Motor Hotel with Rt Rev Msgr Raymond Miles of Kearney as principal speaker urging Christian men to combat cultural and juvenile evils.

Seven members of the Women's Christian Temperance Union met Friday afternoon at Mrs. Elmer Holtman's home. Mrs. Virgil Wadley presided as the group voted to send 5 dollars to the Nebraska Temperance League and to discontinue the July meeting. Don Barker Receives Doctor Degree in Chiropody

Don Barker son of Mr and Mrs Ron Barker of Sidney graduated May 30 with a Doctor of Surgical Chiropody degree from the California College of Chiropody in San Francisco. Mrs Duis Presents UCLW Lesson Topic

United Lutheran Church Women met at the home of Mrs Darold Hendee with twenty members and one guest Mrs Bessie Carpenter present. Mrs Alvin Duis led Around the World Today in Christian Education and a quiz on Lutheran Women's Magazine was given by Mrs Hendee. The group voted a donation to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church benevolence fund and Mrs Ben Folkerts conducted offering dedication. The W M B Club met Tuesday for a 1 30 dessert luncheon at Mrs Harold Spiker home with nine members present. Bouquets of spring flowers decorated the rooms. Mrs Ed Lipke presided at a brief meeting and planned an 8 oclock breakfast at the Fort Sidney Hotel for the July 7 gathering.

Harden Receives Drew University Bachelor of Divinity

John Harden formerly of Sidney was graduated at Drew University Madison New Jersey with a Bachelor of Divinity after three years in the Theological School. The 92nd commencement exercises were held at 10 30 AM on campus. Harden also earned a Bachelor of Arts from Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln in June 1955.

Benzel Infant Taken To Denver Hospital

Seven week old Jeffrey Benzel, son of Mr and Mrs Leonard Benzel, was taken to Children’s Hospital in Denver last Monday with a heart ailment. His parents and maternal grandmother Mrs Alfred Koester spent the week there returning Saturday evening. Mrs Koester and Mrs Benzel left again this morning for Denver to be with him. The attending physician considers the condition serious but the infant is responding to treatment.
