Dentist and Rancher Part Ways Over Cow Teeth Patent

CHAPPELL Dr. Ward C Newcomb and Road Mentor who pioneered cow dental implants are splitting with a friendly dispute. The Colorado rancher holds a patent for a bovine dental plate, while the Nebraska dentist will continue using individual steel crowns first fitted to cattle in 1959. Newcomb has taken over Mentor's interest and improved the steel coverings. Mentor advocated covering all lower teeth and earned a patent for the plate. The aim is to prevent wear on a valuable cow's teeth to extend its life and productivity, as worn teeth can expose nerves and cause pain during grazing and drinking.
