Local residents Mr and Mrs Maurice A King and Mr and Mrs Danial Tuckenhagen of Sidney attended the 47th anniversary convention of the international Lutheran Laymen's League in Lincoln Nebraska July 12 15 The four day event featured officer elections future convention site selections expansion plans for the St Louis headquarters and award presentations The convention included an opening Lutheran Hour rally by Oswald Hoffman drawing about 5500 The theme God at Work in Christian Congregations guided the 1964 65 program The 1965 site is Boston and speakers included Herbert Mayor Won Yong Ji and William A Buege The event highlighted the League's worldwide broadcast operations and outreach.

Rebekah Lodge Discusses International Peace Garden Topic
Rebekah Sidney Rebekah Lodge No. 66 met Wednesday at 8 p.m. with Mrs Katie Helzer presiding. A review covered the International Peace Garden project by the Odd Fellows and Rebekahs of the World, noting the 2,300 acre symbol of peace between Canada and the United States in Turtle Mountains near Dunseith and Boissevain. The garden, donated by North Dakota and Manitoba, is the world’s only such site and will dedicate gates with plaques on July 26, 1964, reading For International Peace by the Odd Fellows and Rebekahs of the World. Lunch followed, served by Mrs Vernon Shoopman, Mrs Calvin Sente(n)ey, and Mrs Harry Hofer. Next meeting is August 5 at 8 p.m. in the Odd Fellow Hall.

Memorial Hospital Auxiliary met July 14 in the hospital basement with Mrs. H. C. Q. Nelson presiding. The project committee announced eight booths sold for the Hospital Bazaar on October 2 and 3. The next meeting, Tuesday August 11, will tour hospital departments.
4-H Club Notes at Rockettes Sixth Meeting
Suzanne Thompson demonstrated a fruit cup at the sixth Rockettes 4-H Club meeting held July 10 at her home. Members filled Cheyenne County Fair entry blanks, practiced song contest pieces, and completed skirts with blouses started. Plans for two groups and a dish to share at the next meeting were made. Jim Knicely, son of Mr and Mrs Jack R Knicely, is midway through a year in New Zealand under the Rotary Exchange program. He stays with host families in Upper Hutt, attends Heretaunga College, ranks 10th in a class of 90, and has engaged in speaking to students and Rotary clubs.
