43 Racers Vie For Sidney Soap Box Derby Crown
Forty three boys aged 11 to 15 compete Sunday on Derby Hill for a chance to represent Sidney in the All American Derby in Akron on August 15. Local prizes include a $500 US Savings Bond, a $40 racer, a new bike for runner up, and best looking car trophy. Parade Saturday through Clinois Street begins at 10, entrants report at 9:30, and a 1180 foot track with safety measures and snow fence lines the course. Local and out of town competitors include brothers Lafler Hazlitt Paxton and Matthes, with judges Carl Christ Jr Dean Wilson and Bob Hossle. Sidney High band plans pre race entertainment.

An additional 1 289 000 funds direct home loans in Nebraska for the first quarter ending September 30 1964. A H Duxbury VA Regional Manager for Nebraska says more than 7 000 000 in direct loans have been made to Nebraska veterans in the past 12 months. Loans are available in all counties except Douglas Lancaster and Sarpy. Since 1950 the VA has approved over 3 900 direct loans totaling more than 35 500 000. only 8 foreclosed and 1 914 paid in full or sold to private investors.

Arthur Ernest Brauer 69 longtime South Divide resident died early today at Mercy Hospital Denver after months of ill health and a recent surgery. He was born June 15 1895 in Sidney to Fritz and wife and married Erna Tuefert in 1919. Funeral plans are pending. Survived by widow two daughters seven grandchildren five brothers and two sisters with several relatives listed. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church South Divide.
