Nebraska city managers meet in Sidney to discuss funds

The annual meeting of the City Managers of Nebraska convened in Sidney with Tom Coffey as host. Attendees included Bob Laing and others who debated police delinquency handling, long term parking leases, school tuition on airport land, and a proposed cap on revenue diverted to cities from light and power plants. Coffey labeled the session a workshop and the group planned continued study of a police pension overhaul while opposing current revenue-diversion proposals.

Auto Thief In Jail Awaiting Court Hearing

John Robert Weber of Upland California waived a County Court hearing and was bound to District Court for trial after his arrest Thursday night for auto theft. The 38 year old allegedly stole a 1964 Plymouth Sport Fury from the corner of Tenth and Illinois, wrecked it two miles north and 16.8 miles east of Gurley, and was later identified by a gas fill up at Maddox's car. Patrol helped recover him about five hours after the theft.

Weather outlook with scattered thundershowers forecast

Fair weather mostly continues with afternoon and evening thundershowers. Tonight's low 60 to 65, tomorrow's high 90 to 100. Five day forecast shows temperatures 3 to 8 degrees above normal through Saturday with highs in the 90s and lows in the 60s. Glasses and key case turned in to police

The police report two items found and turned in. A boy's glasses with metal and black plastic frames were recovered from mud in Lodgepole Creek near Legion Park. A black cowhide key case with four keys was also turned in, three marked Y1 and one marked RU4. Report to claim.

Fast Wheat Harvest Reaches Peak Across Cheyenne County

Cheyenne County reports a near record winter wheat harvest described as the fastest in history. Yields averaged 25 to 30 bushels, with fields reaching 35 to 50 bushels where hail spared crops. Some areas like Dalton Gurley and Potter suffered losses from a June hailstorm that wiped about 32,000 acres.

Oil Exploration Rules To Be Set At Sioux Army Depot

A Wednesday meeting at the Sioux Army Depot will set ground rules for oil exploration on the 20,000 acre reservation near Sidney. Attending will be Army District Engineers, Interior, Air Force, and depot command to determine leased sections, restrictions, and bidding procedures amid proximity to missile sites and ammunition storage.

Three Car Crashes Produce High Damage Estimate

Sidney police investigated two three car crashes over the weekend. A North American Van Lines truck driven by Edward Dear struck Walter Schwindt, pushing his car into Allen Ely’s parked vehicle, with combined damages of 25 800 and 125 dollars respectively. In the second crash Georgianna Coleman rear ended Gayle Nelson at a red light, pushing Nelson into Roland Westerhoff, causing the highest damage to the Nelson vehicle.
