The Sidney Juniors drop a 4-3 decision to Alliance in a wild seventh inning after a rugged game missing three starters. Sidneys Midgets fall 5-4, leaving them 7-7 for the year as Alliance pulls ahead late.
Joe Folda former Sidney High School basketball coach is among six boys coaches nominated for the Nebraska Coaches Association Coach of the Year honors. Bill Hicks of Potter High School is the girls nominee, with awards to be presented August 4 at the Hilton Hotel in Lincoln.
Pittsburgh coach Chuck Noll testified in a $2 million slander case, diagramming the play where Lynn Swann was injured to show the ball was not targeted at him. He argued Atkinson should have known Swann was not the intended receiver and suffered a concussion on the play.

Since 1959, 1 234 players and 152 coaches from Nebraska high schools have played in the Shrine Bowl. The North squad training camp opens Monday July 25, and the South camp opens Sunday July 24. Order blanks for game tickets are available at American National Bank.
Peetz and Rotary opened with a tight 6 5 finish in Pony League while Major League saw American National beat Sidney 10 5. Minor League A and W posted a 10 6 win for KSID over Pud dlemakers, and T Ball Sidney routed CB Pud dlemakers 66 31.
