President Carter asked Congress to empower the NLRB to punish delays in bargaining for first contracts with wage backpay and double backpay awards, bar repeat violators from federal contracts for three years, and seek injunctions against serious unfair labor practices. He also urged expanding the NLRB from five to seven members and cited labor reform as protecting workers rights to form unions. AFL-CIO welcomed the proposals as correcting an imbalance against workers in organizing elections.

Six highway deaths at Nebraska during weekend
United Press International reports six people died in four separate Nebraska highway crashes over the weekend. In Omaha, Thomas L. Richardson, 29, died in a motorcycle wreck near 51st Street and Curtis Avenue. Columbus residents Timothy Koziol, 24, and William Berlin, 24, died when Koziol's motorcycle left Nebraska 22, struck a washout, near Genoa. Larry James Rasmussen, 30, of Manchester, Iowa, died in a one car crash on I 80 near Wood River. Platte County sheriff's officials say Paul H. Klassen, 20, Silver Creek, and Colleen Kearney, 18, St. Edward, died early Saturday in a Genoa area crash.

Lupescu casket laid next to Romanian king in royal pantheon
In Lisbon an Anglican ceremony placed the casket of Magda Lupescu beside that of exiled King Carol in the Royal Pantheon. Lupescu, 76, died June 30 in Estoril after a lengthy illness, ending a famous love story of the century.

Stone retires from city fire department
Marion Stone, a Sidney Fire Department veteran of more than 23 years, officially retired Saturday after serving as both a paid firefighter and volunteer. A farewell at the fire hall honored his service with a watchdog watch gift. He, his wife, and grandchildren plan a Texas trip before seeking new work. Larry Collins will replace him on August 1.

Free Campgrounds Near Sidney Boost Rally Traffic
The free campgrounds west of Sidney attract many campers this summer with a busy weekend as Holiday Rambler Trailers head to the International Rally of Holiday Rambler Recreational Vehicle Clubs in Fort Collins Colorado. Hosts Mr and Mrs Armour Beese and Mr and Mrs Floyd Lanks guide visitors to the rally where about 2600 trailers will be parked on Colorado State University campus for the week-long event. In Sidney 25 trailers camped Friday night including Holiday Huskers from eastern Nebraska and several Iowa groups. L Harold Hamlin, president of the Holiday Huskers, estimates about 40 Nebraskans attend.
