Local Social Security ID process shifted to city offices
Citizens needing social security numbers for tax purposes should apply at any local Social Security Administration or Internal Revenue Service office. The Baltimore centralized issuance system has ended after two years. Form 3435 has been revised for local number requests, and financial institutions should obtain updated forms from district IRS directors. Taxpayers must include their social security number on tax returns and payers must report dividend and interest payments.
