Wildcat Test Announced Near Sidney Nebraska

A wildcat oil test is announced along the Nebraska Colorado line in Cheyenne County. Murfin Drilling Co. will drill No. 1 Phelps for Stuarco Oil Co Skinner Corp and Zach and Turnbull to about 4900 feet with no nearby production. Tools are to be moved to the site immediately. The location lies about nine miles south and two west of Sidney.

Cheyenne County sheriff seeks two men aiding harvest follow ups and contacting families amid emergencies. Henry King of Longview Texas and George Casteel of Bethany Missouri are listed as wanted.

Mrs. Martinosky Dies Early Today in California

Mrs. John Martinosky Sr., about 50, died at about 2 am in California after a long illness. The remains will be brought to Sidney for funeral and burial services. Arrangements are pending at The Gehrig & Son Funeral Home.

Annexation Fight Roils Sidney City Council Meeting

A large Sidney delegation is expected to oppose an annexation along the east edge of Sidney involving Union Pacific Railroad land with privately owned improvements. Local firms represented include Farmers Feed and Seed Co. Sidney Implement Co. International Harvester Co. and National Tank Co. The council will also consider Ordinance No. 730, the 1964-65 budget, a sewer district on West 24th Ave, and appointments to the library board and Planning Commission. Tonight's meeting starts at 7:30.

Two More Cows Reported Killed

Mrs. H. L. Schnell reported two heifers struck by lightning during last Wednesday's thunderstorm. The cattle grazed in the C. G. Olsen pasture near Sidney when killed. The Schnell family owned them and the animals were found Thursday morning. Two additional cows were missing, presumed to have strayed into another pasture.

Windows Shattered at International Harvester Store East of Sidney

Sheriff W W Schulz reports vandalism at the International Harvester Co store east of Sidney. Two 3 by 4 foot front windows were broken by rocks this morning, according to the report.

Man Held On Theft Of Tires

Charges were expected to be filed today against Ralph Horton, 44, Little Rock, Ark., accused of stealing two tires from his employer, John Roberts, a Goodland Kan. harvester. Tires valued at 214 were sold for 20. Roberts was taken into custody at a Sidney tavern after giving the name ONeill. Another tire theft is under investigation near Dalton as Ray Ernest reports two spare tires on his red weeder unbolted over the weekend.

El Palomino Motel Sells To Sidney Couple

Mr and Mrs Clarence Couch buy the 22 unit El Palomino Motel at 2220 Illinois, effective Thursday July 16, from Mr and Mrs Sam Odland who sell for health reasons and will stay in Sidney. Couch, born in Sidney, has managed his father’s farm since 1947, is a Metropolitan Life agent, a WWII Air Force bomber pilot, and a Civil Air Patrol cadet instructor. The Odlands say they value the years running the motel, which serves the Sidney community and holds an AAA first class rating.

Francis R. Hiner of the Nebraska State Employment Service in Sidney reports a seasonal rise in labor supply and drop in worker demand for June. There were 116 openings vs 183 in May, with June demand below 1963 levels mainly due to弱 construction and farming slowdowns. Unemployment claim load rose slightly as workers moved to area missile base contractor jobs. office serves Banner Cheyenne Deuel and Kimball Counties.
