Signatures Lacking On School Vote

A statewide petition drive to force a November election on the school land lease proposal failed to reach the required signatures. About 25 thousand were gathered, short of the roughly 44 thousand needed, per Chas D Green, president of the Nebraska School Leaseholders Association. The effort, hampered by Green's illness and apathy among leaseholders, yielded sufficient counts only in Dundy Perkins Sheridan Sioux and Cherry counties. Green said the drive could still lead to legislative push in 1953 and potential ballot action in 1954 if changes to revenue distribution and leasing laws aren’t made.
