Subdued Hugh Griffith Returns to Sidney After Capture
A subdued 40 year old Hugh Griffith was brought to Sidney at midnight Monday from Hardin Colorado, charged with first degree murder in the shotgun slaying of his wife Anna. He offered little talk, refused to be questioned, and did not reveal details about the gun or his whereabouts. Arrigned Tuesday morning he stood on his civil rights as counsel was appointed and he declined to speak with the attorney. He disputed the use of the term real name unknown on the complaint and has kept to a solitary cell exchanging only weather remarks with guards. Sheriff Schulz and Chief Willis conferred with Colorado authorities for further information.

Alpha Elberta Haggerty 79, widow of Ross W. Haggerty and Broadwater resident, died Wednesday in a Bridgeport hospital. Funeral services at 2 pm Friday at Messiah Lutheran in Bridgeport with Rev. M B Simon officiating. Burial at Oregon Trail Memorial Cemetery beside her husband. Born March 11, 1873 in Red Oak Iowa, she married Oct. 30, 1894 in Columbus Nebraska. Survived by two daughters, Mrs Adolph Schulz Mitchell and Mrs John Brown Broadwater. two sons Glenn Cambridge and Ray Ryerton. 15 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.

Lt. James M. Selzer a brother of Mike Selzer of Sidney is reported as a Korean War casualty. His home is in Scottsbluff with wife and parents. Selzer was killed in action June 17 as a reservist veteran of the European theater in World War II and was recalled to service in April 1951.

City backs long range improvement plan with paving district

Burial in Greenwood Cemetery. pallbearers named. Viewing today Friday 3 to 9 p m. Born January 8, 1862 in Smoland Sweden she came to the U S in 1889 and settled near Sidney after marriage to Nels W Olson in 1895. Surviving are three sons O Albin Olson and Carl Olson of Sidney and Clarence G Olson of North Platte, a daughter Anna E Olson of Sidney, five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Husband predeceased her.

Farm Mishap Kills Woman at Dalton Township Farm
Mrs. Walter Tarling, 52, was killed when a truck bed slipped from a block and pinned her head in the Twarling farm shed 16 miles west of Dalton. Sheriff Schulz said it was accidental. no inquest will be held. The widower Walter Twarling and neighbors assisted, a doctor arrived too late, and the body will be sent to Stromsburg Neb. for burial. Emma M. Larson, born 1898 in Stromsburg, had worked for N. W. Bell and lived at the Dalton farm since marrying Mr. Twarling in March this year. Survivors include the widower, two stepchildren, a sister, and three brothers.

Star Packing Meat Burglary Denied in Cheyenne Court
Harold Shepher and Ernest Stuht pleaded not guilty to feloniously entering a building after being charged with attempting to steal packaged meat from Star Packing Company lockers on June 22. Sheriff Schulz said they were arrested that night with frozen meat in their possession after being spotted by Roland Biggs, the packing plant manager.
