An analysis explains hybrid seed costs and potential profits. A bushel seeds 8 acres, about $6.50 per bushel, equating to roughly 80 cents per acre. A two-bushel gain per acre would cover the cost, and a four to eight bushel advantage could yield profit in hybrid planting.
Bankers Back Livestock Rebuilding With Loans Plan
Board discussed creating a special corporation to issue loans to farmers for brood stock as banks lack reserves. Emil Placek of Wahoo reported Nebraska hog numbers fell from 5 million to about 1.59 million, with cattle and sheep similarly strained. A $45,000 seed fund, possibly $75,000, was proposed to start loans, later borrow on its own notes. eligibility would require drought-resilient farming and livestock care commitments. Banks lack funds or are wary due to drought, leaving farmers with mortgaged property and little security.
