GRAND ISLAND Nebraska farmer John R Doell of York County, winner of the De Kalb corn contest, hailed surpluses as a strength of the country. He credits irrigation for high yields, noting 186.37 bushels per acre and 104 head of Herefords from his 1958 crop. Doell, a flying farmer on about 380 acres near Henderson, built value to about 140000 with irrigation. He predicts a bright future for Nebraska agriculture and emphasizes the role of modern methods on small family farms.
