First Of Oil Bills Passed To Legislature

Nebraska senators from oil and gas regions reported six measures from the judiciary committee to aid industry development. LB 35 establishing a special lien law for drilling materials and services was held for further study. LB 36, 37, 59, 61, 62, and 127 were reported out, addressing forfeiture timing, estate easements with pipelines, leasing procedures, pipeline agreements, oil rights interests, and foreign incorporated oil firms. LB 60 on mineral real estate attachments was killed. Introduced by Senators Fenske McGinley Kotouc and Cole the bills were explained by a team of attorneys.

Cheyenne County reports only one producing oil well this week Wytex Oil in the Maley Field. Two dry holes and two potential dusters mark the county, with activity centered near Potter and the Winkleman and East Gurley areas as ops test pay sands and wildcats. Elks Lead Heart Fund Drive In Nebraska

Sidney Elks Club takes Cheyenne County lead in the Heart Fund drive as Lou Winters is named drive chairman. Nebraska starts Feb 1 but will begin late here. Plastic containers will be placed countywide, with later features announced. Donations can be mailed to Winters at the Sidney Elks Club. Gov. Vic Anderson dedicates the month to late Nebraska senators Hugh Butler and Dwight Griswold. Funds support Nebraska research and heart programs with 75 percent kept locally.

Frank Alfter Dies and Funeral Set Monday

Frank J. Alfter, 69, of Sidney, died today at a local hospital from a heart ailment after a yearlong illness. Funeral services are scheduled Monday at 9 am from St. Patrick's Church with Rev. Albert Alber. burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Rosary at Gehrig Funeral Home Sunday at 7:30 p.m. Gehrig and Son Mortuary handles arrangements. He was a retired farmer who lived in Sidney 25 years, born Aug. 1, 1885, in Ambia, Indiana. He married Mary Hodgman Sept. 28, 1915, at Dwight, Illinois, and is survived by his wife, four daughters Mabel Helfrich, Mildred Alfter, Rosemary Schuchardt, Virginia Nicolas. one son John Alfter. seven grandchildren. five sisters and one brother. Pallbearers listed.

University Sets Date of Annual Freshman Scholarships Testing

The University of Nebraska announced the annual competition for freshman scholarships in 300 high schools. Entries are due February 28. Scholarships worth 100 dollars go to the top senior in each school determined by exams in general knowledge and college aptitude. Eligibility requires top 25 percent of the class. Alternates may receive scholarships if winners decline.

Final Collections By Carrier Boys Set For Tomorrow

Tomorrow is the last time carrier boys for The Telegraph will make collection rounds in Sidney. As of March 1, all subscription payments are to be made in The Telegraph office at 830 0th Ave. Rates: Three months 1.75, six months 3.25, one year 6.50. The change does not affect Telegraph subscribers at Ordville or Trailer City. Sidney subscribers with carrier bay deliveries are asked to be ready tomorrow to help collectors bring collections up to date.

E W Olson a Sterling geologist sues Miracle Fifer Rotary Drilling Contractors in Sterling district court seeking an one eighth working interest in Monroe Nos 1 2 3 and 4 wells and more than 50000 for oil produced from June 1954 to January 1955 He claims subleases from The Texas Co to Miracle Fifer and disputes signing back his one eighth interest while also rescinding his contract and demanding the drillers transfer the sublease Olson alleges Miracle Fifer hold a 31 25 percent working interest in the property

Overweight Truck Fined 400 in Cheyenne County Court

Arch R. Lambert pleaded guilty to overweight on axle after a February 4 arrest in Dal ton. His tractor trailer owned by W. T. Ellis of Sidney carried 27 200 pounds on the rear axle though 18 000 pounds allowed. Total truck weight 34 360 pounds. The $400 fine was among the county’s largest. A second overcapacity on plates charge was dismissed.

Labor Supply Tops Demand In Sid ney Region

The Sid ney area labor supply rose in January with 1 585 people contacting the Nebraska State Employment Serviceurn a 15 percent increase from December 1954 and 45 percent from January last year Local unemployed workers rose slightly but most were from other areas seeking work Employers in the four county area requested 72 workers while 78 people were referred to local job openings including 23 women The office manager Francis Hiner noted little change in demand and no expected rise in the next 60 days.

Rezoning, TV tower clash top Sidney Council agenda

Sidney council set for Monday night to discuss a TV tower site near the airport and two rezoning applications. Nebraska Aeronautics Commission representatives will survey the site six miles south of Sidney, which the tower builders call optimal but the airport commission deems a hazard. Also on the agenda are Burlington Railroad rezoning for light industry near Pine Street and two lots on Country Club Drive for a service station. City officials anticipate a crowded meeting but no municipal bids.

Sidney High Band Announces Fourth Mid Winter Concert

Sidney High School's 90 piece band, directed by Dean Killion, will perform the Fourth Annual Mid Winter Concert on Sunday February 20 at 2 30 pm.
