The North Platte Valley Lamb Feeders Assn launches a campaign to boost lamb consumption in the area. They argue local demand will raise prosperity and highlight many serving options for lamb locally.
Delbert Wheeler Jr., seven months old, died in his Trail City home when a corner of an adult quilt folded over his head while asleep. Dr. J. H. Grimm timed the death around 7 am as the mother woke at 6 am to give medicine for a chest cold. The infant, born July 18, 1954 in Sidney, lay on a Davenport. funeral arrangements were pending at Gehrig & Son Funeral Home.
Sidney City Manager Murrey Fuller reports the 1954-55 winter has already caused street damage equal to last winter and may worsen. Crews focus on the worst spots using special material, with major repairs deferred until after winter ends.
The Nebraska Safety Patrol will arrest motorists lacking 1955 license plates by Wednesday morning with no warnings. Cheyenne County Treasurer Herb Stevens expects a long line of late filers. Offenders will receive a court summons to explain why tabs are missing.
Nebraska Safety Patrol radar fines 18 motorists in Cheyenne County over the weekend on Highway 19 and US 30. Ten offenders hailed from the southern Panhandle, with listed violators from Sidney Gurley Dalton Kimball Bridgeport SOD and others.

A pilot light ignited gasoline fumes at Frontier Service Station at Tenth Ave and King St. around 7:20 p.m. yesterday. An employee washing the floor with gasoline triggered the blaze, burning the floor and a shelf. No injuries reported as Sidney Fire Department quickly contained the fire.
The American Legion Oratorical contest at Sidney High School starts at 1 p.m. in the high school auditorium with four finalists Lance Barker Mike Frost Jim Hansen and Jack King delivering 10 to 12 minute prepared speeches on Americanism. An extemporaneous speech of four to six minutes on a Constitution topic follows with six minutes for prep. Judges include Mrs Rena McClenaghan Harold Katz Fred Thompson Sidney Mayor Larry Clinton Jack Knicely Frank Mattoon and Mrs Charles Ham. Robert Fischer Post No 17 commander will announce winners and present awards.
A Bell model helicopter purchased in Texas by Associated Helicopter Limited of Edmonton Alberta was spotted above the countryside near Sidney. The pilot aimed to reach Scottsbluff by nightfall as strong winds buffeted the craft. The craft departed Sidney at about 2 30 p.m.
The will of Gerhard Egging a Cheyenne County farmer who died on February 4 has been filed for probate in Cheyenne County Court. Under the will his widow Nellie is bequeathed the entire estate valued at about 21000 dollars.
Ryan-Davis Oil Co. plugged the State No. 1 northwest Cheyenne County wildcat as no shows were found in the D and J sands. Rig moved to the Mc Millen No. 1 in Cheyenne County while Anderson No. 1 neared sand. Ohio Oil Co. struggles to regain circulation on the Davis No. 1 near East Gurley Field. New drilling sites total 18 with activity shifting west from Cheyenne County. notable new Cheyenne County locations include Scherer No. 1 and Wilson A No. 1, in the Graham Field and 13-12-55 area respectively.
Postmaster Don Shipman reports Sidney expects a new right hand drive postal truck to join the fleet. The vehicle serves mounted routes at Country Club Heights Valley View Indian Hills and Sky Manor delivering mail from a fixed box with no driver dismount. It will speed parcel post, relieve a carrier's personal vehicle use, and dispatch mail relays and collections.
A 28 year old Sidney oil worker was seriously injured when an A frame from a drilling rig struck him while dismantling a rig in Banner County about 30 miles northwest of Potter. He was taken to Taylor Hospital in Sidney in good condition with chest injuries but no lung collapse or internal bleeding. Harris is an employee of Coulston Drilling Co. of Denver.

John Henzl 54 of Lodgepole died in a 12:05 a.m. crash on U S 30 east of Sidney when his 1954 car left a curve and struck an earth embankment. Passenger John Zoller 47 was injured. Patrolman Mel Busekist witnessed the incident as he returned from arresting Edmond Ponce de Leon of Kimball. Funeral services set for Wednesday at Gehrig & Son Funeral Home with burial in South Sunol Cemetery. Survivors include a stepmother two sisters and four brothers.
