Gurley Pirates claimed first place in the Western Ten Tournament at Chadron by defeating Cody 56 to 45 in the championship. Gurley improved to 14-2, led by John Fickenscher with 18 points, and 15 from Rick Ludeman and 14 from Randy Rohde. Cody’s top scorer was Dick DeWitt with 13 points. All tourney picks included Ludeman, Fickenscher, Wobig, DeWitt for Gurley and Hanous, Boeck for Cody, plus players from Chadron Assumption, Hyannis, Merriman, Harrison, and Bill Marrs.
