Helicopter Stops Bad Farm Fire Near Brownson Farmstead
An Air Force helicopter pilot quickly intervened to halt a fast spreading stubble fire west of Brownson near the John Sell farmstead. Wind driven flames threatened bales and buildings until the rotor blast redirected the fire, with Potter and Sidney fire departments arriving soon after. Neighbor Leonard Nelson praised the pilot for averting a major prairie fire that could have consumed hundreds of acres.

Mrs Harry Sayre dies. services set in Sidney
Mrs. Harry Sayre died Thursday February 9 at Memorial Hospital in Sidney. Services will be Monday February 13 at Light Memorial Presbyterian Church at 10 a.m. Interment at Gering. She taught in Sidney public schools, retired in 1966, and was a Presbyterian. Survivors include her husband, two sons, a daughter, two sisters, a brother, and seven grandchildren. Donations may go to Mildred F. Sayre Children's Library Fund at the Sidney Public Library. Craig-Holechek Funeral Home in charge.

High Plains Lab to Begin at Sioux Depot in March
The High Plains agricultural laboratory at the Sioux Army Depot near Kimball will start early in March with 320 acres laid out for spring fallow. Warren Sachs, RAD and University officials outlined plans to study dry land wheat, grain sorghum, fertilizers, herbicides, drills, range management, and beef cattle across Nebraska Panhandle counties and neighboring states. The project, satellite of Scottsbluff Station, aims to boost regional agriculture and uses leased land initially with private operators. The Kimball WNOA meeting concluded three days of well attended programs.

A 28 year old farmer from east Gurley was arraigned in Logan County Colorado district court on larceny charges for cattle stolen from the J P McKenzie ranch between Peetz and Sterling. Logan County attorneys praised Cheyenne County officials for cooperation in the probe.
