Placement Of Ag Labor Is Studied Here
Plans for placing workers in agriculture and seasonal industries in this area are being prepared this month by the local office staff of the State Employment Service. Manager Francis Hiner said the Extension Service took over supervision of the farm labor program in May 1943 to meet wartime shortages, and administration will transfer to the Employment Service on January 1, 1948. An extensive volunteer farm labor placement group will be formed with a worker in all principal points, to be completed shortly after the new year.

Conservation Pay Program Defended By Chairman
Arno Thomas, chairman of the Cheyenne County Agricultural Conservation committee, defends paying farmers to carry out base soil and water conservation practices. He argues the program reduces erosion, protects future yields, lowers feed prices, and preserves national security by ensuring abundant, affordable food. He notes many farmers cannot cover costs alone, so incentives boost adoption while maintaining production.

Defense shifts to land and life responsibility says Thomas
Mr. Thomas argues all other defenses fail and that whether armed or not people depend on the land and food, which equals life itself, so everyone shares responsibility for protecting the land. The text references “Artcarved” and a Woods wedding ring from The Gift Shop, Jewelers.
