A not guilty verdict was returned Tuesday night by a jury in the state case Nebraska versus William Bentley charged with joy riding a 1946 Chevrolet truck owned by Clarence Yates. The trial featured testimony from Bentley and Geraldine Bentley and witnesses for the state including Yates and Sheriff Schulz before Judge Nisley. The jury was dismissed until further notice.

Hans Brogren 73 died Tuesday at Dalton Hospital after seven weeks as patient. Services were at Craig Home for Funerals with Rev. Raymond Bariels presiding. Burial in Winside Cemetery, Nebraska. Born July 19 1874 in Germany, he settled in Elkhorn then Wayne County before moving to Dalton. Survived by two sisters, six daughters, five sons and 18 grandchildren.

Property owners in paving districts 13 through 18 can learn exact assessments from a legal notice in this issue. The city council approved the assessments last Friday after protests were heard, with payment options available at the city clerk’s office until February 1 to avoid interest. County growers urged to enter wheat samples for contest
W P Bullock county agent urged Cheyenne county wheat growers to submit entries for the Nebraska State Wheat contest. He noted strong statewide activity and warned against Cheyenne lagging behind other counties. A $150 prize will go to the county submitting the most entries, usable for farm youth activities.
