Legion Oratorical Contest Promotes Civic Duties and Awards
The Sidney American Legion sponsors an annual oratorical contest at Sidney and St. Patricks High Schools with $50 awards per school. Winners advance to District and State finals with escalating prizes up to $900 for first in State and national awards totaling $8000. FBLA Installs 23 Members and Elects Officers
The Future Business Leaders of America adds twenty three members after a constitutional revision allowing any student in business courses to join. An induction ceremony was held after school last Wednesday with new members listed. Officers for 1976 77 include Connie Loghry president Jenny Harmon vice president Janet Dress secretary Susan Decker treasurer Susan Dress reporter Holly Atkins parliamentarian Tim Schneider historian. FBLA also runs a candle sale to fund a $150 annual scholarship for a senior pursuing business.

Sidney High School students contributed to a book by Jack Lowe of Panhandle Growth Inc to aid prospective residents and businesses. Dennis Katus wrote about education. Paul Sheaman's class gathered data on local churches, stores, doctors and nurses, motels, pools and golf courses.
