No Good Lead in Skiba Slaying Near Kimball

Cheyenne County Sheriff Oren Cox said there is no solid lead on who killed Frederick Joseph Skiba. Skiba’s body was found in a ditch about five miles west of Kimball along Interstate 60, likely killed about a week earlier. An autopsy showed four gunshot wounds, and investigators seek a couple with a young child who boarded a Kimball bus the night of November 12. Their deserted car was found at an I-80 interchange. officials hope to question them as possible witnesses.

Fascination car project lingers as Highway Aircraft plans unfold

A spokesman for Highway Aircraft Corp notes efforts to produce the Fascination three wheeler continue after moving HQ from Sidney to Haxtun Colorado three months ago. He says production timing is uncertain and hinges on negotiations with investors, with no firm commitment yet on return to Sidney.

Sidney Issues 18 Building Permits in November

Eighteen building permits totaling 125,150 were issued in November in Sidney by Building Inspector Dean Starr. The largest permits were 50,000 for an apartment building at 819 Jackson, 35,000 for a new home on South Dorwart, and 11,000 to remodel a building at 1301 Illinois for offices. The year to date total reaches 2,242,652, compared with 834,059 through November last year.

A not guilty verdict was returned Friday afternoon in the murder trial of Alan Seems of Kimball in Cheyenne County District Court. After 10 hours of deliberation the jury of 10 women and two men found Seems not guilty of first degree murder, the charge reduced to manslaughter or assault and battery.

Cosmetology Program Set to Open at WNTC

Western Nebraska Technical College will open its new cosmetology program on January 10. Dean Tom Dindinger said equipment has arrived and remodeling of Marathon Building is underway. Over 20 young women have shown interest, with Marie Novell named director and Floy Stuss hired as an instructor.

Sidney man on roof charged with feloniously entering

LeRoy Hendrix of Sidney, 22, was found on the rooftop of Cabelas at 10:25 p.m. Thursday. He is charged with feloniously entering and held in Cheyenne County jail. Police say there were no signs of forced entry and no merchandise was found. The case remains under investigation.

Roads iced over much of Nebraska with slick travel

The Associated Press reports snow packed and icy roads across Nebraska Monday morning. Snow totals ranged from one to two inches at major reporting points, with ice in some areas creating hazardous travel. A cold front stretched from eastern Minnesota to Northwest Missouri, with highs in the 20s to 30s and very cold Monday night readings.
